Cheney Chamber hears from final scholarship winner

TSnews CHENEY – Over their past two meetings, members of the Cheney Chamber of Commerce have heard from all of the scholarship winners who won awards from the Chamber and the Cheney Community Foundation. Last month, members of the Cheney Chamber of Commerce enjoyed presentations from two of the scholarship winners this year connected with the Chamber.

Clearwater hires architect for senior center expansion

TSnews CLEARWATER – During its meeting earlier this month, the Clearwater City Council took a step toward expanding the senior center, voting unanimously to pay architect David Wells and engineering firm Professional Engineering Consultants up to $85,000 to create a plan and bid documents for the city to carry out the expansion. The plan is to expand the existing senior center with two additions, one to the south to create an additional 800 square feet of indoor space, and one to the west to create an additional 700 square feet.

Goddard hires firm to design North Park

TSnews GODDARD – The city’s North Park project took another step forward at Monday’s City Council meeting, with the council approving the hiring of Schaefer Architecture, Wichita, to prepare the necessary architectural, engineering and construction administration for the new park. A citizen-led North Park Ad Hoc Committee played a key role in recommending the work be awarded to Schaefer, which was one of six firms to express interest in the project.

Grant helps start a new transport program

TSnews GODDARD – As the new Goddard Senior Center opened in 2024, many realized there were two gaps identified in senior services: transportation and affordable senior housing. A new transportation service will be coming soon, the Goddard Go, after the City of Goddard received FTA 5310 Enhanced Mobility of Seniors and Individuals with Disabilities Program funding.

High school students give back by painting historic sign

TSnews The Conway Springs High School art club volunteered to paint the historic sign outside the Conway Springs Historical Museum. The sign was starting to deteriorate as it aged, and the museum reached out to Jennifer Potts, CSHS art teacher and art club sponsor.

HPD officers cleared in shooting

Staff report TSnews HAYSVILLE – Sedgwick County District Attorney Marc Bennett has cleared two Haysville police officers of wrongdoing in last year’s death of Bill Osterhout, with the DA’s office saying no criminal charges will be filed against the unidentified officers. On March 24, 2024, Haysville police were called to a domestic dispute involving Osterhout and a woman identified as his girlfriend.

Clearwater woman dies in K-42 crash

Staff report TSnews SEDGWICK COUNTY – The Sedgwick County Sheriff ’s Department is continuing to investigate a fatal crash on K-42 Highway that killed a woman from Clearwater. The crash, which happened at approximately 6:50 p.m.
