SALINA – An accident at a construction site in Salina has led to $333,949 in proposed fines for a Cheney contractor. The fines were assessed following a January trench collapse that trapped two workers.

The new $650,000 high school now under construction here is beginning to take shape. Good weather has been an aid to the workmen and the crew is ten working days ahead of schedule.

CHENEY – The Cheney Municipal Pool will remain closed until next week. A pump went out on Friday and the pool has been closed since then.

From July 1913 Duncan’s Auto Garage was entered between 12:30 and 2 p.m. last Sunday and robbed of about $22, which was taken from the cash register.

The American Red Cross continues to see a concerning trend – blood donations are being sent to hospitals faster than they are coming in. The Red Cross has collected about 50,000 fewer blood donations than needed over the last two months. Donors are asked to make an appointment to give blood or platelets now to avoid a looming blood shortage.

TSnews HAYSVILLE – When Sedgwick County mailed new appraisals of residential properties this spring, some Haysville residents responded by calling City Hall. Their concern was that higher valuations would lead to higher property taxes.

CHENEY – The revived Sedgwick County Fair Barbecue Cook-off is back for a second year, and will be held this Saturday. Registration will take place on Friday evening, from 7 to 8 p.m., in the area west of the beef barn.
