City council meetings rescheduled

A pair of local city council meetings next week have been rescheduled. Both the City of Argonia and the City of Goddard normally meet on the first Monday of each month, but next Monday is Labor Day.

More than 220 high school students from across the State of Kansas participated in the 2025 session of the American Legion Boys State of Kansas, held June 1-7 at Kansas State University in Manhattan. This was the program’s 33rd consecutive session at KSU and 87th overall.

Canning helps spread tomato fun year-round

Many gardeners plant tomatoes, and while making salsa and spaghetti sauce or eating them whole during the summer months are popular choices, the fun can be extended well into the rest of the year. Kansas State University food scientist Karen Blakeslee said tomatoes are also popular for freezing, canning or dehydrating to use later.

TSnews CHENEY – The dust has settled on the 2025 Sedgwick County Fair, and by most measurements it was a big success. While some financial aspects have not been completely calculated, most major elements of the annual Fair were successful, and some are expected to be up in revenues.

4-H club reporter The Conway Springs Cardinals 4-H club entered all sorts of projects from livestock to visual arts to woodworking, in both the 4-H Fair and the Sumner County Fair. The club worked for weeks in advance of the fairs, spending money and precious time on these projects.

Kelli Ast I’m so excited to be back in my hometown and at the very school I graduated from, with the privilege of teaching business education to secondary students. Teaching business is where I first began my professional career, and after spending the past four years in 7-12 special education, I’ve grown tremendously as an educator and have been blessed to work with some truly amazing students.
