Cheney City Council quickly handles monthly business

CHENEY – Cheney City Council members held a short meeting on May 11, quickly taking care of a limited number of business items. Council members approved a bid from K&B Dirtworks to install roughly 465 feet of curb and guttering and 400 feet of a 7-foot-wide sidewalk along the north edge of the parking lot at the Cheney Sports Complex, located at the south end of Main Street.

More cities now offer free alert system

SEDGWICK COUNTY – Sedgwick County Emergency Management (SCEM) is expanding the use of Civic Ready Alerts to include 17 more cities, in addition to the initial test sites of Wichita and Mt. Hope. The free alert system notifies residents by phone or email of emergencies or important news in their area.

Clearwater considers change to library budgeting

TSnews CLEARWATER – At its meeting May 9, the Clearwater City Council reviewed a proposal from city administrator Courtney Zollinger to make changes to Clearwater Public Library's budget and its memorandum of understanding with the city. The library is governed by its own board of trustees.

Haysville now a Purple Heart City

HAYSVILLE – At a Monday evening presentation at the local VFW Post, Haysville celebrating becoming a Purple Heart City. The celebration took place at VFW Post 6957 in Haysville, following the official declaration that took place at the May 8 Haysville City Council meeting.

GPHS grad designs winning button

GARDEN PLAIN – The “Top Gun” movies helped inspire the design for this year’s Garden Plain Fourth of July button and T-shirt. Abbygail (Wells) Brown submitted this year’s winning entry, which was chosen by the Garden Plain Chamber of Commerce, the organization that puts on the Independence Day celebration.

Cheney library debuts new artwork

CHENEY – If you have driven by the Cheney Public Library on Main Street recently, you likely have seen the new artwork that has been installed in front of the library building. It is virtually impossible to miss if you’ve walked by on the sidewalk.

Cofellow Coffee Parlor aims to build community

GODDARD – With great weather and a big crowd, Cofellow Coffee Parlor held its grand opening on Saturday and the Goddard Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon-cutting for the new business. Cofellow had a soft opening on May 1.

Goddard resident publishes new photo book

TSnews “Kansas Is Beautiful.” That’s the title of the new self-published book from Goddard photographer Mickey Shannon, but it’s also a belief about the Sunflower State. Shannon has been working on his nature photography book since around 2015, and has been a professional photographer since 2007.
