The Cheney Cardinals baseball team continued its recent hot streak last Thursday when it swept a doubleheader at home against Belle Plaine, taking the opener 18-8 and the nightcap 9-5. It was the Cardinals’ seventh win in its last eight games.

TSnews The Cheney Cardinals continued their hot start to the softball season last Thursday by sweeping a doubleheader from Belle Plaine, taking the first game 17-5 and the second 20-5. In the opener, Cheney pounded out 20 hits, led by four from Chesney Hoch.

CHENEY – This is only the fourth week that the new Anchor Farm has been providing produce in Cheney and Yoder, but Shelby Beyer’s family farm has been years in the making. Situated on 20 acres just outside of Cheney, Beyer – with the help of her husband, Brad, and their two children – is working to turn a dream into reality.
Shelby Beyer of Cheney has worked with her family to start Anchor Farm, located just outside of town. She follows regenerative agriculture principles in her operation, which recently started offering produce for sale in Cheney. Here, she is holding a goat from Jako Farm near Yoder. Goddard students earn Newman scholarships

GODDARD – After a record number of applicants to its 2023 Scholarship Interview Days, Newman University has selected 41 students to receive its prestigious Monsignor Leon McNeill Scholarship for the upcoming 20232024 academic year. The scholarship is an annual renewable award for four years, valued at a total of $80,000.

Clearwater teacher chosen for fellowship

CLEARWATER – Meredith Thomas, Clearwater Intermediate-Middle School STEM teacher, has been selected for the Cosmosphere’s 2023 Launch-Learning Fellowship, an honor that comes with more than $800 in free resources teachers can share with their school and district.

Former Goddard admin lands new job

GODDARD – Former Goddard city administrator Brian Silcott has a new employer. Silcott was named on March 6 as the new city manager for the City of Ottawa in northeast Kansas.
