Swimmers hit State marks in opener

Campus and Clearwater swimmers hit State times for qualification and consideration during the Colts’ season-opening meet on March 28. The Colts easily won the triangular, scoring 264 points at home to beat El Dorado (114) and Classical School of Wichita (69).
Campus High senior Sayler Roberts has secured spots at State swimming early in the season. She qualified for two events in the her first meet, and in two more events two days later.

Golf roundup: Cheney Cardinals win at Pratt

The Cheney Cardinals opened the new golf season with a win at the fourteam Pratt Invitational last Thursday, playing 18 holes. The Cardinals’ top four scorers finished back-toback, taking third through sixth place.

Owls track teams second at ‘Bear Schmidt’ invite

Garden Plain track and field athletes started the new season last Friday at the Andale “Bear Schmidt” Invitational, named after the long-time head track coach at Andale High School. The Owls put in a number of good performances in a tough field that included Collegiate, Hesston, Valley Center and Kingman.

The Conway Springs - Argonia Reds softball team did not have to wait long to break into the win column. The Reds earned the first two wins in program history last Friday when they swept a doubleheader from Wichita North, taking the opener 15-5 and the nightcap 13-10.

Campus names new volleyball coach

HAYSVILLE – Campus High School has announced that Tracy Doile has been selected as the new head volleyball coach. Doile will replace longtime head coach Mary Askren. Last year, Doile was the freshman team head coach at Campus.

Soccer teams play in tournaments

TSnews The three girls soccer teams in the TSnews coverage area are all in the midst of tournaments this week. Goddard and Eisenhower are co-hosting a tournament that began Monday.

Baseball

TSnews The CSA Reds baseball team did not take long to earn its first win. The Reds (1-3) won a 1310 slugfest with Moundridge in the first game of a doubleheader Monday, pounding out 12 hits and rallying from a 10-8 deficit in the final three innings.

Softall

TSnews The Clearwater Indians and Andale-Garden Plain split their season-opening softball doubleheader Monday at Clearwater, with the visitors winning the first game 7-5 and Clearwater taking the second 9-5. In the opener, AGP scored twice in the top of the fifth inning and three times in the top of the sixth to take a 6-1 lead, then held off a late Clearwater rally to take the win.

This will be Justi Sims’ first season as a softball head coach. She is new to the district this school year, and brings three years of experience as an assistant coach in Sedan, where she also was a player.
