GP boys, Cheney girls win Vernon Ferguson titles

Body TSnews Local girls track and field teams claimed the top three spots at last Friday’s Vernon Ferguson Invitational meet in Cheney. The host Cardinals scored 135.5 points, earning a victory over Clearwater (120) and Garden Plain (85).

Colts place third in big Maize meet

Body Clearwater’s Schwerdfeger qualifies for State TSnews The Campus Colts swimmers and divers came up big in the Maize meet, placing third in a field of 17 teams. They medaled in nine of 12 events.

Lions sit out last week due to weather

Body The Goddard Lions track and field team did not compete last week, opting to pull out of the Ark City Invitational on Thursday. Goddard joined Andover Central and Winfield in not competing in the meet, which was plagued by rain.

Baseball

Body TSnews The Goddard Lions baseball team picked up a pair of wins from former league rival Maize South last Tuesday, taking the first game of a doubleheader 13-6 and the nightcap 7-1. The Lions used a seven- run third inning to erase an early deficit in taking the opener.

Softball

Body TSnews The Cheney Cardinals suffered their first loss of the softball season last Thursday when Wichita Trinity came to town and took the first game of a doubleheader by a 10-3 score.

Goddard Lions lose 2

Body TSnews The Goddard Lions girls soccer team was shut out in two losses last week, losing 1-0 to Valley Center on April 25, then losing 5-0 at Andover on April 27.

Colts lose in final minutes at Newton

Body TSnews The Campus Colts girls soccer team played at Newton on Thursday, April 27. With less than 5 minutes left in regulation, the Colts were tied 1-1 with the Railers, but Newton netted two late goals to take the game, 3-1.

EHS girls win Salthawk Invitational

Body TSnews The Eisenhower Tigers girls track and field team won the team championship at last Friday’s Salthawk Invitational at Hutchinson’s Gowans Stadium. The Tigers scored 120.5 points, beating runners-up Maize and Garden City by 29.5 points.
