A family reunion was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. P.S. Crites Sunday, June 29, in honor of J.W. Forney of Peoria, Ariz. The dinner was served cafeteria style on the spacious lawn to 46 guests. The afternoon was spent visiting and taking pictures. Mr. Forney left Monday morning for Peoria, Ariz. He came to this locality before the town was here, having ridden in here on a freight in 1881 and jumped off in the sand at the river west of town while the train was filling with water. He said he was the first subscriber to Argonia’s first newspaper, the Argonia Clipper, started by Ed Brain, who came here from either Freeport or Midilothian, two small towns southwest of here. Mr. Forney carried the petition for the first post office here, and Amos B. Cook was the first postmaster, followed by L.S. Crites.
