I love acts of subtle service. You know, acts that are seemingly so ordinary that, to someone who has never struggled with that particular essential, it’s almost an invisible need in their day-to-day lives.

GARDEN PLAIN – Winter homecoming will take place this Friday at Garden Plain High School. Coronation will take place after the boys varsity basketball game.

CHENEY – This week is Winter Heart to Heart for Cheney High School. The ceremony will be Friday after the boys basketball game, at approximately 9 p.m.

Place the shelled pistachios into a bowl of room temperature water for four hours or into a pot of boiling water (take it off the stove, first) for 30 minutes to let them soak. Rinse and drain the nuts, and then rub as much of the skins off the pistachios as you can.

VIOLA – Hazel of Weber of Viola is a new junior member of the American Angus Association. Junior members of the association are eligible to register cattle American Angus Association, participate in programs conducted by the National Junior Angus Association, and take part in association- sponsored shows and other events.

GODDARD – This week’s meeting of the Goddard City Council meeting has been rescheduled for this Thursday. The council normally meets on the first and third Monday of the month, although this week’s meeting had already been moved to Tuesday as city offices were closed Monday for Presidents Day.

The Conway Springs Middle School teams traveled to Wichita Independent on Feb. 10 for the last meet of the Central Plains Middle School League season.

The Kansas Masonic Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to benefitting Kansas communities, has partnered with Haysville Lodge No. 112 to donate $2,568 to the Haysville United Methodist Church Feed the Homeless Program.

CLEARWATER – This weekend, students at Clearwater High School will stage “The Diary of Anne Frank.” The play is the stage adaptation of the 1947 book titled, “The Diary of a Young Girl” by Anne Frank, which premiered on Broadway in 1955. The script also served as the basis of the film script, which won a 1959 Academy Award.
