7 Years Ago On Monday night, the Haysville City Council formally seated one new member and recognized a retiring member at its first meeting of 2018. Newly elected council member Danny Walters was sworn in and seated for his first meeting.

January The Cheney Cardinals girls and boys basketball teams opened 2024 with big wins by defeating the Hesston Swathers, whose girls and boys teams both were ranked No. 1 in Class 3A.

Two blood drives will take place in the next two weeks at local high schools. Eisenhower High School will host a blood drive from 8 a.m.

SEDGWICK COUNTY – Sedgwick County District Attorney Marc Bennett is warning people not to click any links or buttons that resemble bank or savings information. Bennett himself received a scam email and a blue button that read “refund your money.” Clicking the button could introduce malware into your computer or phone.

NTCA–The Rural Broadband Association announced the election of board officers for 2025, including Ben Foster as vice chair. Foster is the president & CEO of Twin Valley and ISG Technology – together the largest independently owned broadband and communications company in Kansas.

CLEARWATER – Sen. Majority Leader-elect Chase Blasi (R-Wichita) has announced staff hires, including naming a Clearwater High School graduate to a key position.

John Hillman, a larger-than-life personality in Cheney known throughout the region as an auctioneer and real estate broker, died after a long battle with cancer. Hillman was an auctioneer for 34 years and spent most of that time working hand-in-hand with Roger Zerener and Fred Foley.
