CLEARWATER – Bryson Snell, a 2024 Clearwater High School graduate, was recently awarded a $7,500 college scholarship from the mikeroweWORKS foundation. Mike Rowe is best known for his Discovery Channel television series, “Dirty Jobs,” and his advocation for jobs in the trades.

HAYSVILLE – The Haysville Chamber of Commerce had a well-attended meeting last week at the Haysville Activity Center. Highlights included presentations by the activity center, and by Xpress Wellness.

GARDEN PLAIN – The City of Garden Plain has been granted $3,500 in community reinvestment funds from Garden Plain State Bank for the purchase of two new pieces of playground equipment for Ternes Park.

Wichita State University’s Center for Entrepreneurship, in partnership with Cowley and Sumner County E- Communities and NetWork Kansas, has announced that the entrepreneurial certificate program, “Growing Rural Businesses,” will be offered in Sumner and Cowley counties starting Oct.

CALDWELL – Join the Border Queen Cruisers this Saturday for the 37th annual All Wheels Super Saturday Car Show. The show will be at Caldwell City Park.

CHENEY – Entrants are being sought for the annual Cheney Chamber of Commerce soup and chili cook-off, which will be held as part of the community pep rally on Main Street on Oct. 29.

With Labor Day taking place on Monday, the city councils for Argonia and Goddard are rescheduling the meetings that normally take place on the first Monday of the month. The Goddard City Council will meet at 7 p.m.

Thirty-four students in the College of Arts and Sciences at Kansas State University have received research awards from the college for summer and fall 2024. Darius Skillen of Cheney, majoring in mathematics and Spanish, is among the award winners.

CLEARWATER – The USD 264 Clearwater Board of Education is seeking district patrons to serve on a committee to develop a cell phone policy for the 2025-26 school year. The committee will consist of parents, students and staff.

CLEARWATER – The Clearwater Public Library is holding a community conversation this Saturday. The library has received a grant to better serve its patrons with disabilities.
