Raiders boys get first win

TSnews The second time was a charm for the Argonia Raiders boys basketball team. After losing to Sedan last Friday night, the Raiders took on Sedan again the next day in the preliminary round of the South Central Border League Tournament and took a 50-42 win, their first win of the season.

Kuehn takes third at Best of the West

TSnews The Eisenhower Tigers boys and girls wrestling teams were both busy last weekend, with the boys competing at the Newton Tournament of Champions and the girls heading to Wichita West for the Best of the West. Leading the way for the Tigers at Newton was Lucas Freeman (215 pounds), who won four matches on his way to a seventh-place finish.

Clearwater wrestlers win home invitational

TSnews Home was indeed sweet for the Clearwater Indians boys wrestling team as it won its own Clearwater Invitational last Saturday. The Indians won the tournament with 183 1/2 points, 70 ahead of runner-up Chaparral.

Owls medal three at Halstead

TSnews The Garden Plain Owls wrestling team had three wrestlers bring home medals from the always-tough Halstead Invitational last weekend. Leading the way was Nate Eck (106 pounds), who won four of his five matches and took second, while Devin Rau (175) won four matches on the way to a fourth-place finish and Kaiden Fisher (126) won three matches as he finished sixth.

TSnews The Cheney Cardinals boys and girls wrestling teams took just seven wrestlers to last weekend’s Halstead Invitational, but six of them came back with medals. Parker McClellan (150 pounds) led the way for the boys, winning all three of his matches to take the title.

Four Lions win at Newton TOC

TSnews The Goddard Lions boys and girls wrestling teams headed to Newton last week for its annual Tournament of Champions, with four boys winning titles last Saturday and one girl medaling last Thursday. “We competed hard won some tough matches and lost some tough matches, but we continue to get better as we move forward toward the State tournament,” Goddard coach Brett Means said.

Two Colts win at Clearwater

TSnews The Campus Colts boys and girls wrestling teams both went to the Clearwater Invitational last Saturday and each team came home with one individual champion and several other medalists. On the girls side, Brooklyn Burling (235 pounds) won a title, while Tianna Murphy (100) and Elayna Evans (155) both took second and the duo of Ava Cruce (125) and Tegan Dushane (170) each took third as the team took fifth.

Campus girls fall to ranked teams

TSnews The Campus Colts girls basketball team dropped two games last week to ranked teams, starting with a 69-34 loss at the Derby Panthers, the No. 3 team in Class 6A in last week’s KCBA rankings.

Cheney opens Rupp tourney with big win

TSnews The Cheney Cardinals advanced in the Adolph Rupp Invitational with Monday’s 68-18 win over the Rose Hill Rockets on Monday in Halstead. The Cardinals raced out to a 45-10 halftime lead, and then held the Rockets to just 8 points in the second half.
