Kid’s Heart Challenge wraps up

GARDEN PLAIN – Garden Plain students, families and community members helped Garden Plain Elementary School raise $10,000 for the American Heart Association. This year’s top collector was Lincoln Hoover, a first grade student at GPE. Money collected through the Kid’s Heart Challenge goes to education and research, and helps ensure that new medical procedures are continually developed. Several students and their families learned hand-only CPR through Finn’s Mission, a program promoted by the AHA through the Kid’s Heart Challenge.

Stroot Lockers win seven KMPA awards

Brianna Barnes TSnews GODDARD — Owners and employees from Stroot Lockers attended the 2025 Kansas Meat Processors Association (KMPA) Convention and Trade Show, held in Wichita at the DoubleTree by Hilton. They won six grand Champion Awards in multiple categories, including bacon, jerky, sticks, German sausage and brats.
Stroot Lockers owners and employees recently attended the KMPA Convention and Trade Show, where they won Best of Show for their summer sausage.

Historic presentation rescheduled

SUMNER COUNTY – Due to the threat of inclement weather for last month’s program, the Sumner County Historical and Genealogical Society will host an encore presentation of “The Orphan Trains of Sumner County,” a presentation by Jim Bales.

City moves to issue GO bonds for Indian Ridge

TSnews CLEARWATER – With Indian Ridge Phase 1 infrastructure projects complete, the Clearwater City Council moved toward issuing general obligation bonds (GO bonds) during its May 27 meeting. A public hearing on the bonds was scheduled for June 24.

GARDEN PLAIN – The annual Vintage Market in Garden Plain returns this Saturday. One of the city's larger events, the Vintage Market includes numerous commercial vendors with a wide variety of products, as well as food trucks.

CS City Council takes actions to utilize seed grant funds

TSnews CONWAY SPRINGS – The Conway Springs City Council took actions last week to utilize some of the TEFFI Seed Grant funds it had received earlier this year from the Kansas Department of Commerce. Crystal Hinnen, who is with Ranson and Associates and helps with grant applications for the city, was on hand for the meeting and reported on the progress of the $12,000 TEFFI Seed Grant received by the city.

GODDARD – A new face and new role highlighted Monday’s Goddard City Council meeting. Naomi Leonard is the newest council member, attending her second meeting after being appointed and sworn in on May 27.

Argonia brings in foreign exchange students

TSnews ARGONIA – Argonia High School has consistently brought in two foreign exchange students every year for the last three years and they have all been hosted by the same family, Wayne and Sarah Vineyard. Last school year two students, Manuel Benavides from Spain and Silas Boetcher from Germany, came to Argonia High School and enjoyed their time.

All-way stop added near Goddard

GODDARD – As of May 21, the intersection of 167th Street West and Central (4th Street North) is now an all-way stop. For the first time, drivers traveling north south on 167th Street will need to stop.
