Yesteryears From the archives of the Cheney Sentinel, Clearwater Times and Goddard News Sentinel 10 Years Ago The Vinita 4-H club was very busy at the end of the year. We held a birthday party, gave socks, and sang Christmas carols at the Cheney Golden Age Home, and we worked at Come Home for Christmas in Cheney.

From December 1939 Walter Konecny has been appointed chairman for this district to aid in the success of the Sunflower Boys State Ball to be held at the Elks Hall in Wichita on Dec. 22. Walter, who is now attending a Wichita business college, was a graduate of the local high school last spring.

6 Years Ago Four pet chickens are adding to the quality of life for Haysville’s nursing home, Diversicare residents. The chickens live in Diversicare’s courtyard.

Sedgwick County's Christmas tree recycling program ends next week. Jan. 23 is the last day for county residents to drop off their Christmas trees at one of 22 sites in the county. Lights, decorations and stands must be removed first.

HAYSVILLE – The Haysville city council kicked off the new year with its first meeting of 2025 on Monday night and worked through its agenda in just 30 minutes. Many of the business items dealt with appointments and contracts for services that are renewed annually.

GARDEN PLAIN – During its Jan. 8 meeting, the Garden Plain City Council approved a resolution adjusting the price it charges per MCF of natural gas, raising it from $2.65 to $3.15.
