‘Home Alone’ is Kansans’ favorite Christmas movie For 2024, the top Christmas film was “Home Alone,”, the story of a boy who accidentally gets left home by himself while the rest of his family flies to Europe. This is according to BetKansas.com, which looked at internet searches in Kansas for the past three holiday seasons.

Donations aid Conway Springs food bank

Thanks to the combined efforts of members, businesses, and community partners, Wheatland Electric Cooperative’s 2024 Power the Pantry campaign has raised $110,287 in cash and food donations for a dozen local food banks, including the Conway Springs Mission Mart.

8 Years Ago A rainy summer was rough on construction schedules for the new Haysville Activity Center, but a dry end of the year has staff looking forward to an anticipated opening in April 2017. 'We're excited for the new building and can't wait to move in,' said recreation director Georgie Carter.

From December 1933 W.A. Thew, the local Rexall druggist, installed a new soda fountain and a new electric refrigerating machine. Mr. Thew has been the druggist here for nearly 40 years during which time his advertising messages have appeared in the Star every week. He has built up and maintained in all its branches a model drug store.

From December 1940 Mrs. Ivan Bruce entertained a group of children last Friday evening at her home with a party in honor of the 10th birthday of her son, Darrel. Various games were played and refreshments of fruit salad with whipped cream and birthday cake were served. Guests were the members of the fifthgrade class: Beth Parker, Marietta Bringer, Marjorie Flinn, Dorothy Hartle, Carl Floyd, Harold Cone, Charles Jesseph, Hewey Howard, and Dorsey Casebolt.

Come Home for Christmas was successful event

TSnews CHENEY – This year’s Come Home for Christmas celebration in Cheney was well received and successful, members of the Cheney Chamber of Commerce noted at their December meeting earlier this month. “We had large crowds in the downtown area, and bingo at the Fairgrounds was packed,” said Chamber president Jami Viner.

Enter 'I Voted' sticker contest

The Sedgwick County Election Office has kicked off its student design contest for the 2025 “I Voted” sticker that will be given to voters during the 2025 electoral season. The competition is open to all students in grades 6-12 who attend public, private or home schools in Sedgwick County.

Ownership changes at Anthony newspaper

The Anthony Republican, the oldest continuously operating business in Anthony since its founding in 1878, is officially changing hands. Larry and Bonnie Dunn sold the publication to Ross and Elisha Downing.
