Phone and internet services are vital to accessing healthcare and community services, finding employment, and calling for help in an emergency. However, the cost to stay connected is out of reach for many Kansans.

GODDARD – One of the largest herds of giraffe in the United States just got even bigger. Tanganyika Wildlife Park’s herd has grown by three, recently welcoming two male and one female calves to the herd.

GODDARD – The Goddard city council at its Sept. 3 meeting approved a 2025 budget that calls for a six-mill increase in city taxes.

CONWAY SPRINGS – Nearly 50 years ago, the bandshell in Conway Springs' Central Park was falling apart and scheduled to be torn down. Built in 1910, the bandshell was a literal shell of its former self in 1975, the victim of neglect and vandalism.

GODDARD – The Goddard Senior Center will have a grand opening next Thursday, Sept. 19, as part its senior expo and resource fair, called Empowering Connections.

HAYSVILLE – The Haysville city council formally approved the 2025 budget at Monday’s council meeting after holding a pair of public hearings. State law requires a public hearing when a taxing body plans to raise more revenue than it did in the previous year, which is known as exceeding the revenue neutral rate.

HAYSVILLE – The Haysville Community Library will hold its annual Constitution Day celebration on Saturday. The public is invited to a free potluck dinner at noon.

WELLLINGTON – Sumner County Historical and Genealogical Society in Wellington will host “The Border Wars: Conflict in Kansas and Missouri During the Civil War,” a presentation by Ken Spurgeon at 6:30 p.m.
