TSnews CHENEY – Cheney City Council members approved additional curbing and concrete work at the Cheney Sports Complex during last Thursday's regular monthly meeting. While the walking trail at the complex on south Main Street is 95 percent complete, staff members have determined there is an area that needs additional curbing.

TSnews HAYSVILLE – Less than a week after it was approved by voters, the Haysville city council approved an ordinance at its meeting Monday to levy a 1 percent city sales tax. This is a renewal of a sales tax that has been in place for 10 years.

HAYSVILLE – Twin Valley, Kansas’ largest privately- owned broadband and communications company, has announced plans to extend its cutting-edge fiber network from rural Haysville into city limits. The company said its proposed multimillion-dollar investment would rank Haysville among the top Kansas communities for broadband connectivity with access to 8 Gigabit symmetrical fiber internet service for business and residential customers.

HAYSVILLE – The Haysville Chamber of Commerce will hold its monthly meeting next week on Thursday. The meeting is taking place on a new date, on the fourth Thursday of the month rather than the third.

Staff report TSnews HAYSVILLE – A GoFundMe fundraiser has been set up to help the family of Remone Halabi, who is reported by the fundraiser to have died Sunday in a motorcycle accident. A fatal accident was reported to have happened shortly after midnight on Sunday morning in the area of 55th Street South and Hoover Road.

Carmen Smith was doing some work at the pool hall and while down in the pit an explosion occurred. He was taken from the pit and brought out on the sidewalk.

7 Years Ago Campus golfer Mikey Kelly is heading to the Class 6A State tournament. Kelly won a playoff with four other golfers to take ninth at Monday’s regional tournament at Carey Park in Hutchinson.

From May 1951 The Honorable Fred Hall, lieutenant governor of Kansas, will be the speaker when the 22 members of the CSHS Class of ‘51 receive their diplomas in the annual commencement exercises at the high school auditorium at 8 p.m. next Thursday, May 17.

10 Years Ago Amanda Wilson of Cheney was among 90 veterinary students who earned a doctor of veterinary medicine (DVM) degree from Oklahoma’s only veterinary college at Oklahoma State University Center for Veterinary Health Sciences. Married to Blake Wilson, she is the daughter of Daniel and Sharon Quaney of Cheney.
