The recent Viola Lions sausage supper, held on Feb. 7, drew another full house. More than 1,150 tickets were sold, and more than 100 volunteers were fed before the doors were opened. Volunteers from many communities came together to make the event happen.

Goddard roofer banned from doing work

Staff report TSnews GODDARD – An area roofing company and its Goddard owner have been banned from doing work and ordered to pay more than $500,000 for committing more than 28 violations of the Kansas Consumer Protection Act. Tyler Sims of Goddard, owner of Flint Hills Roofing Co., LLC., was alleged to have committed 28 violations that included failing to pull permits, skipping inspections, and failing to finish projects that he was paid for.

GPHS honors WSU crash survivor Renner

GARDEN PLAIN – Fans of the Garden Plain Owls and Wichita State Shockers enjoyed a special moment at last Friday's winter homecoming basketball games, as the school honored GPHS alumnus Bob Renner. Renner's story is one of remarkable resilience, as he was one of the survivors of the tragic plane crash of the Gold Plane, the chartered airplane that crashed west of Denver, Colo., in October 1970, carrying Wichita State Shockers football players and other members of the football program.
Bob Renner, center, was recognized last Friday at the Garden Plain High School homecoming games. Renner is a survivor of the Wichita State University football plane crash in 1970. Renner was a standout athlete for the Owls, and still holds the single-game scoring record for the boys basketball program. He scored 44 points against Clearwater in 1966. Clearwater Fire Dept. to purchase new tanker

TSnews CLEARWATER – The Clearwater City Council voted Feb. 10 to purchase a new tanker truck for the volunteer fire department, allowing the city to avoid a downgrade in its rural fire-protection rating.
