Newspapers in Our Schools is a cooperative effort between The Times-Sentinel/ Haysville Sun-Times and area businesses that are generously assisting with the cost of printing additional newspapers each week to provide one paper for each classroom in our coverage area – Cheney, Clearwater, Garden Plain, Goddard and Haysville. Our goal is to help connect local students with their communities, and provide a direct connection between our schools and the community newspaper.

With temperatures dropping, the Kansas Department for Children and Families (DCF) has announced that Kansans needing financial assistance to keep their heat on this winter can apply for the Low Income Energy Assistance Program (LIEAP) earlier this year than in past years. “Kansas winters can be brutal and no Kansas family should be cold,” said Laura Howard, DCF Secretary.

Haysville honors employees for service

HAYSVILLE – The city of Haysville prides itself on its staff and several members of that staff were honored for their years of service at Monday’s city council meeting. Sixteen employees who have provided a combined 175 years of service to the city were honored.

Goddard schools warned about Bible lessons, worship songs

Foundation says Goddard school district ended unconstitutional practice after receiving letter A south-central Kansas public school choir teacher taught middle school students Christian worship songs centering around loving Jesus, such as “Praise His Holy Name,” and made students listen to Bible lessons, according to a national watchdog group’s report. The Freedom from Religion Foundation, a national nonprofit geared toward the separation of state and church, urged the district to stop the practice in late November after a concerned district parent reached out to them.
