See You at the Pole

Body
Several dozen people turned out for last week's See You at the Pole, which was held at Cheney Elementary School. The Rev. Aaron Duell of St. Paul's Lutheran Church led grade school students in small groups. The event has grown from seven attendees when it started in the 1990s. See You at the Pole, a global day of student prayer, began in 1990 as a grassroots movement with 10 students praying at their school. Decades later, millions pray on their campuses on the fourth Wednesday in September. See You at the Pole is a student-initiated, student-organized, and student-led event.

Get cheesy with your snacking this week

Body
When we went on family vacations during childhood, we always packed plenty of snacks and a cooler with pop for the journey. I didn’t know until I was nearly an adult that people could actually buy the snacks and drinks at roadside convenience stores.
Smoked Cheez-Its can be customized with any of your favorite seasonings and give a little extra oomph to an already delicious snack. These can also be made in the oven if a smoker isn’t an option.

Campus High School graduate Marissa Sullivan spoke up after students disrupted a Kansas State University pre-game football ritual Saturday. When students started a vulgar chant, the K-State marching band stopped playing, in the middle of the “Wabash Cannonball.” Once the music stopped, a video board in the football stadium played a pre-recorded message from head football coach Bill Snyder, asking students not to use the chant in the future.
