Aviators win first-half of Jayhawk League

The Haysville Aviators summer baseball team earned the Jayhawk League’s first-half championship Monday night with an 11-10 win over the Newton Rebels at Plagens- Carpenter Park. Down 10-9 going to the bottom of the ninth, Will Rogers scored the tying run on a wild pitch, then Brock Lulewicz singled home Brody Leyboldt with the game-winner to secure the first-half crown for the Aviators (14-4).

Time to enter Fair’s Got Talent

The annual Sedgwick County Fair’s Got Talent is looking for contestants for this year’s contest. This long-running event is a favorite activity for Fair attendees, who get to see and hear talent performances from up-and-comers as well as folks who may have established themselves regionally.

Aviators keep winning, improve to 10-3

The Haysville Aviators summer baseball team improved to 10-3 on the season Monday night as it rolled to a 10-0 win over the Diamond Kings at Plagens-Carpenter Park. Last Tuesday, the Aviators split a doubleheader with the Kingman Islanders, losing the opener 1410 before taking the nightcap 12-2.

McCormick steps down as Cheney girls basketball coach

One of the best girls basketball coaches in Kansas is calling it a career. Sarah McCormick recently announced her decision to step down as Cheney’s girls basketball coach after a successful run at the helm of the Cardinals – and before that, the Garden Plain Owls and Scott City Beavers.

High temps, humidity impact lawns

Kansas State University horticulture expert Cynthia Domenghini says summer’s weather patterns often mean the amount of time grass blades stay wet increases, making them more susceptible to the disease, brown patch.
