TSnews The Cheney Cardinals track and field teams had another good showing at the Class 3A State track and field meet, held last Friday and Saturday at Cessna Stadium. The girls placed seventh with 35 points, coming in 16 points behind champion Smoky Valley.

TSnews Two Eisenhower Tigers won gold medals at last week’s Class 5A State track and field meet, held in Wichita. Leah Wilkinson came into the State meet as a favorite in the shot put, and she delivered with the only performance of more than 40 feet.

TSnews Goddard High School’s Micah Johnson and Tyson Wallace each won three medals at the Class 5A State track and field meet last week at Wichita State. Johnson finished second in the 200 meters and fourth in the 100 meters.

Indians drop 17-inning marathon in State opener

TSnews SALINA – The Clearwater Indians and the Wamego Raiders engaged in a marathon of a softball game in their Class 4A State tournament opener last Thursday. The game went 17 innings before Wamego scored a run in the bottom of the 17th to take a 2-1 win over the Indians.

TSnews TOPEKA – The Cheney Cardinals softball team ran into a buzzsaw when it opened the Class 3A State tournament last Thursday against the Silver Lake Eagles. Silver Lake hit three home runs and scored two or more runs in all but one inning as the Eagles routed Cheney 10-0 in the quarterfinal round of the State tournament.

TSnews WICHITA – The Eisenhower Tigers baseball team struck first, but it was St. Thomas Aquinas who struck last and best as the Saints downed Eisenhower 4-3 in 10 innings last Thursday in the quarterfinal round of the Class 5A State tournament at Eck Stadium.
