The Campus Colts and Eisenhower Tigers opened the 2024 cross country season at Wichita State’s JK Gold Classic, at Clapp Park in Wichita. The Eisenhower boys had the best overall finishing, taking third out of 17 teams.

The cross country season got underway last Thursday at the Clearwater Participation meet. The meet allows unlimited entries, giving schools a chance to put many runners into a competitive situation to start the season.

Cheney Cardinals off to hot start

The Cheney Cardinals volleyball team got its season off to a hot start last week as it swept a pair of triangulars. Cheney was at Arkansas City last Tuesday, downing Eisenhower 21-25, 27-25, 25-20 and the host Bulldogs 25-16, 26-24.

Three of four girls tennis teams in the TSnews coverage area opened their seasons with meets last week. The Conway Springs Cardinals competed at Ellsworth, taking second as a team behind the hosts.

The Eisenhower Tigers girls golf team might have experienced a sense of deja vu after its first two tournaments of the season last week. The Tigers took fourth at the Derby Invitational to open the season last Tuesday, then took fourth two days later at their own Eisenhower Invitational at Auburn Hills Golf Course.

Campus Colts struggle in loss to Junction City

The Campus Colts had a hard time in last Friday’s football season opener, as the visiting Junction City Blue Jays rolled to a 55-0 victory in Haysville. Much of the damage was done in the first quarter as the Blue Jays soared to a 34-0 lead, scoring five touchdowns including two on punt returns and one on defense.

Lions avenge playoff loss against Maize Eagles

Defense dominated the night as the Goddard Lions topped the Maize Eagles 7-3 last Friday at Goddard District Stadium. The victory helps erase the memories of the Lions’ heartbreaking playoff defeat to Maize last season.

Winter’s 4 TDs lead Cardinals to victory

The Conway Springs Cardinals began defense of their most recent State championship with a 42-0 victory over the visiting Nickerson Panthers. Nickerson is a larger school than Conway Springs, competing in Class 3A while the Cardinals are in 1A.
