Two Owls win titles at own Bill Brown Invitational TSnews The Garden Plain Owls had two wrestlers win titles and another wrestle for one as the team took sixth place at its own Bill Brown Invitational last Friday. The Owls were sixth as a team with 82 points, eight ahead of seventh-place Larned.

TSnews The Campus Colts boys basketball team edged the visiting Eisenhower Tigers 63-49 last week. It was the Colts’ second game in two nights, while it was the Tigers’ lone game of the week while girls’ teams were playing in tournaments.

TSnews The Goddard Lions girls basketball team competed in their midseason tournament in El Dorado over the weekend, going 1-2 to finish fourth. The Lions opened their campaign on Thursday, Jan.

TSnews The Cheney Cardinals stumbled at the end the Haven Wildcat Classic last week, losing their last two games, including a 40-24 loss to the Circle Thunderbirds on Saturday. The Cardinals finished in fourth place.

TSnews The Conway Springs Cardinals boys basketball team used a strong third period to turn a close game into a 54-40 win at Chaparral last Thursday. The game was a makeup of an earlier contest which was postponed.

TSnews The Clearwater Indians girls basketball team shook off an opening-round loss to win a pair of nailbiters and take fifth last week at the Mid-America Classic in McPherson. After dropping last Thursday’s opener 52-30 to the host Bullpups, the Indians downed Wichita Northwest 48-47 the next day, then beat Andover Central 54-53 in last Saturday’s fifth-place game.

TSnews The Goddard Lions fell to Class 5A’s current top-ranked team on the boys side, the Maize South Mavericks, 67-47 last Tuesday, Jan. 23.

TSnews The Conway Springs Cardinals girls basketball team shook off a loss in the first round of the Mulvane Wildcat Classic to ultimately take fifth in the annual event. After falling to Wichita Collegiate 35-31 in last Thursday’s tournament opener, the Cardinals downed Winfield 33-30 the next night and then beat Wichita North 58-43 last Saturday in the fifth-place game.

TSnews The Eisenhower Tigers girls basketball team was busy on the hardwood last week, playing a road game at Salina Central on Tuesday, then traveling to Newton for a midseason tournament. They finished the four-game, six-day stretch with a 2-2 record, plus valuable experience against some high-quality teams, according to Tigers head coach Matt Brumley.

TSnews The Campus Colts girls basketball team was busy last week, with one regular-season game and three tournament games between Monday and Saturday. Unfortunately, the Colts went 0-4 in those games, and are still looking for the season’s first victory.
