Halstead’s Tyner Horn has a nearly perfect season

Harvey County Now HALSTEAD – Halstead resident and 2023 Goddard Eisenhower graduate Tyner Horn hasn’t yet succeeded beyond high school, but the 2023 5A Pitcher of the Year has had the attention of Major League Baseball scouts for years and is projected to be drafted as high as the fifth to seventh rounds. As a position player, Horn had a great season.

The Haysville Aviators went 2-2 in games over the past week, including a 2-1 series win over the Hutchinson Monarchs last week. The Aviators won the first and last games, with a 4-1 win in last Thursday’s opener, and an 8-7 victory Saturday.

Sadie Koester Conway Springs Cardinals This week’s TSnews Athlete of the Week is Sadie Koester. The Conway Springs Cardinal track and field athlete recently placed seventh at the Class 2A State meet.

Soccer players earn league honors

Soccer players from the Eisenhower Tigers, Goddard Lions and Campus Colts girls soccer teams have earned post-season honors. The Ark Valley Chisholm Trail League has named its all-league teams for the 2023 season.

Correction: Cheney all-league softball

Last week’s TSnews print edition contained an error in the Central Plains League all-league honors for the Cheney Cardinals softball team. Senior Elina Bartlett was inadvertently left off of the list of players earning CPL honors.

Aviators fly over the Islanders

The Haysville Aviators picked up a 14-6 victory at the Kingman Islanders on Saturday. The Aviators put up five runs through the first three innings for a 5-1 lead. They then added 3 runs in the top of the fifth, eighth and ninth innings.

Newman University has released its 2023 spring dean’s list. A total of 397 undergraduate students achieved the qualifications required, completing at least 12 credit hours and achieving a grade point average of 3.5 or higher.

Kansas Curve win 5 of 6

Body
The Kansas Curve won five of six games through Sunday, including five in a row from June 1 to June 9. That stretch included 7-2 and 11-5 wins over the Dirtbags and the El Dorado Walnuts, as reported in last week’s newspaper.

Softball players bring home honors

TSnews The Ark Valley Chisholm Trail League and the Central Plains League have released their post-season softball honors, as determined by the leagues’ coaches. Starting with the AVCTL, Campus earned a first-team honor for junior outfielder Gabrielle Stauffer.
