CSHS qualifies for State in 7 events

TSnews The Conway Springs Cardinals track and field team will compete in this week’s Class 2A State in six individual events and a relay. They qualified last Thursday at the Class 2A regional meet in Marion.

Soccer seasons end in regionals

TSnews All three soccer teams in the TSnews coverage area saw their seasons end in regional play last week. The Goddard Lions and Campus Colts lost first-round matches, while the Eisenhower Tigers advanced to a regional final before exiting the postseason.

Raiders’ season ends at regional meet

TSnews The Argonia Raiders won’t have any representatives at this year’s Class 1A State track meet. The Raiders came close in some events, but were not able to get the top-four finish needed in any event to qualify for State.

Pitching, timely offense send Lions to State

TSnews The Goddard Lions baseball team came through when it counted against the Andover Central Trojans in last Wednesday’s Class 5A regional championship game. The Lions (16-6) tied the game in the bottom of the fourth on Sandler Bowyer’s solo homer, then took the lead for good in the bottom of the fifth when Austin Rudkin doubled home Mason Healy on the way to a 2-1 win.

Roberts swims to top-5 finishes at State

TSnews The Campus Colts swim team wrapped up the season at last week’s Class 6A State swim meet, held in Topeka. Senior swimmer Sayler Roberts put the cap on an outstanding swim career with a pair of top-5 performances.

Tigers win regional championship

TSnews The Eisenhower Tigers made it a clean sweep for the Goddard school district in baseball regional play last Wednesday by also capturing a Class 5A regional title. The Tigers downed Valley Center 8-1 in semifinal action, then beat Maize South 8-4 in the regional finals to earn a trip to Wichita.

Tigers punch ticket to State

TSnews The Eisenhower Tigers softball team is hoping its third trip in a row to the Class 5A State tournament is a charm. The Tigers (17-5) punched their tickets to State last Wednesday on the strength of strong pitching in regionals, shutting out Topeka West 1-0 in eight innings in the semifinals, then downing Great Bend 6-2 to win the regional championship.

Stuhlsatz, Hague named to all-star volleyball squads

Two local volleyball players will take part in the Kansas Volleyball Association all-start match. Ryleigh Stuhlsatz, a graduate of Garden Plain High School, and Campbell Hague, a graduate of Cheney High School, will take part in the all-star match on June 3 at Lee Arena, on the Washburn University campus in Topeka. The match time is 4:30 p.m.

Cheney girls, GP boys win CPL track

TSnews The Cheney Cardinals girls edged the Garden Plain Owls for the Central Plains League track and field girls title lat Thursday in Cheney. The Cardinals on the meet with 164 meets, while Garden Plain scored 149.
