TSnews The Conway Springs Cardinals girls basketball team are the champions of the Mulvane Wildcat Classic after winning a memorable title game against host Mulvane 56-55 in overtime last Saturday. Trailing 55-54 in the closing seconds of overtime, Sadie Koester put back a missed shot as time expired to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat and give Conway Springs the tournament title.
The Campus Colts lost 79-51 to the Maize South Mavericks boys basketball team on Jan. 27. It was the Colts’ only game last week The Mavericks - ranked No. 4 in Class 5A - took a big lead early, going up 25-12 after the first quarter. Maize South put up another 23 points in the third quarter, and led 61-39 heading into the fourth quarter.
TSnews The Garden Plain Owls beat the Andale Indians for a second time this month to finish third at the Haven Wildcat Classic girls basketball tournament. The Owls beat the Indians 43-31.
The Garden Plain Owls faced a big challenge on Jan. 27, as they lost 68-38 at the Moundridge Wildcats. Moundridge moved up to No. 2 in the Class 2A Kansas Basketball Coaches Association poll that same day.
TSnews The Campus Colts placed fourth at last week’s Wildcat Classic girls basketball tournament in Mulvane, wrapping up the threeday tourney with a 52-46 loss to the Valley Center Hornets. The Colts struggled mightily on offense in the first half of the game, scoring just 9 points and finding themselves in a 15-point hole at halftime.
TSnews The Goddard Lions girls basketball team went 2-1 at the El Dorado Lady Cat Classic, bouncing back from a 58-36 loss to Kapaun Mt. Carmel on Thursday, Jan. 29, to beat Augusta 55-42 on Friday and Gardner-Edgerton 4740 on Saturday.
The Goddard Lions boys basketball team dropped two games at the Bluestem Classic in El Dorado, falling to Wichita Collegiate 80-32 on Thursday, Jan. 22, and to Wichita Trinity Academy 58-45 on Friday, Jan. 23.
The Campus Colts wrestling team came painfully close to winning a league title on the girls side last week. The Campus girls took second at last Thursday’s Ark Valley Chisholm Trail League Division I Tournament, going 5-1 on the evening.
After a week off, the Conway Springs Cardinals girls basketball team is slated to return to the court Thursday as the top seed at the Mulvane Wildcat Classic. The Cardinals tip off the tournament at 2:30 p.m.
