TSnews The Garden Plain Owls last Thursday snapped a three-game losing streak that extended back to December, as they won 54-40 against the Arkansas City Bulldogs in a game played at Newman University’s Fugate Gymnasium. It was the Owls’ first win of the new year.
TSnews Last week was a busy, challenging one for the Cheney boys basketball team, as the Cardinals earned a win over the Augusta Orioles in between a pair of non-league losses. The Cardinals wrested a 48-47 victory away from the Orioles in a game played at Newman University.
TSnews The start of the new year offered just what the doctor ordered for the Argonia Raiders boys basketball team last Friday night. The Raiders (5-3) dominated the second half of last Friday’s home game against Stafford to roll to a 62-35 win over the Trojans.
TSnews The Clearwater Indians boys basketball team saw its losing streak hit five games in a row as they fell to its Ark Valley Chisholm Trail League Division IV rival, the Wellington Crusaders, 51-39 last Friday night. The Indians (2-7) trailed 15-10 after the opening period and were down 24-17 at the intermission.
TSnews The Cheney Cardinals opened the 2026 portion of their schedule last weekend at the 52nd Ellsworth Wrestling Tournament, with one Cardinals wrestler landing in the top four. Colton Veach (165 pounds) won two of his three pool matches to make it to the thirdplace match at the tournament, where he fell to Garden Plain’s Carter Tatom by a 12-3 major decision.
TSnews The Garden Plain Owls wrestling team had a pair of wrestlers win gold at tournaments last week. The boys kicked off the new year last weekend at the Ellsworth Wrestling Tournament, with Nate Eck winning a title at 106 pounds and three more finishing in the top six.
TSnews The Eisenhower Tigers wrestling team dove into 2026 last weekend at the Salina South Invitational, with one boy taking second at the event. On the boys side, the Tigers took eighth with 88 points, one behind Plainville and 13 ahead of Wichita West.
TSnews The Campus Colts girls wrestling team hosted one of the biggest matches in the state last Thursday when Washburn Rural came to town for a battle of State-ranked teams in Class 6A. While Washburn Rural came away with the 47-34 win, it still was a memorable night for the Colts.
TSnews If last Friday’s wrestling matches between the Clearwater Indians and the Derby Panthers felt like a homecoming for Clearwater coach Cooper Ross, it’s because they were. Ross wrestled at Derby for his father, Kansas Wrestling Coaches Association Hall of Famer Bill Ross, learning the tools that have made him the coach he is today.
