TSnews Last Friday’s football game between the Clearwater Indians and their Ark Valley Chisholm Trail League rivals, the Wellington Crusaders, started out well enough. The Indians took a 7-0 lead on an 8-yard touchdown pass early in the second quarter.

TSnews The South Sumner Outlaws made themselves at home in Argonia on Friday, leaving town with a 52-20 win over the Argonia- Attica Titans. Two numbers stand out from the game – the Outlaws’ 243 rushing yards, and the Titans’ struggles on third down when they went 0-for-9.

TSnews The Cheney Cardinals girls golf team got its season off to a strong start by winning the Hesston Invitational last Thursday. The Cardinals shot 372 as a team, 16 strokes ahead of the runner-up – and host – Swathers.

TSnews Mission accomplished for the Cheney Cardinals volleyball team last week. The Cardinals won all four of their matches, downing Arkansas City 25-15, 25-9 and Eisenhower 24-26, 27-25, 25-21 last Tuesday, then beating Little River 16-25, 25-11, 25-23 and Nickerson 25-5, 25-9 last Thursday.

TSnews Local cross country teams started their seasons last week Clearwater welcomed Cheney, Conway Springs and Goddard, among other area schools, for the Indians’ annual participation meet. Runners took part in either an open 5-kilometer race, or a shorter 2-mile race.

TSnews A fast start by the Goddard offense – helped by Campus offensive mistakes – allowed the Goddard Lions to run out to a 22-0 first-quarter lead and eventually to a 36-12 home win over the visiting Colts last Thursday night. Following a Campus punt, the Lions struck quickly.

TSnews Last Friday’s rivalry game between the Cheney Cardinals and Garden Plain Owls came down to a coach’s decision and one play. With 1:22 left in the game, the visiting Owls had pulled to within a point of the Cardinals, 2827, on Jack Helten’s 5-yard touchdown run.

The Campus Colts flag football team earned a win and took a loss in its season- opening doubleheader last week on Wednesday. It was the first night ever for sanctioned girls flag football in Kansas, organized under the direction of the Kansas State High School Activities Association.

TSnews MARYSVILLE – The Cheney Cardinals volleyball team headed northeast to open the season and competed at the Marysville tournament last Saturday, splitting its four matches at the event.
