The Goddard Senior Center is poised for more growth in 2024. At Monday's Goddard City Council meeting, the council gave its approval to a grant application for $18,000 from the Sedgwick County Department of Aging and Disabilities (SCDAD).

Reports of harmful blue-green algae in Kansas waterways have been coming in unusually early this year, possibly a result of warmer late-spring weather and more rain events, according to a Kansas State University fisheries and aquatics specialist.

KC Chiefs, Royals ask Kansas for stadium incentives

Editor’s note: As this week’s TSnews went to press Tuesday night, news broke that the Kansas Senate and House of Represenatives had approved an incentive package to cover up to 70 percent of the cost of new stadiums. Gov. Laura Kelly said she supported the effort, but did not say if she would sign the legislation.

Goddard Chamber had busy day Thursday

GODDARD – The Goddard Chamber of Commerce had a busy day last Thursday, first hosting a luncheon meeting and then a ribbon cutting for The Dam Jam Music Festival later that evening. The Dam Jam was one of the sponsors for last Thursday’s monthly Chamber luncheon, along with Iron Insurance Partners.

GP among new FFA chapters

Kansas FFA recently welcomed four new chapters to the association. Garden Plain FFA was among the chapters officially added to the list of Kansas FFA chapters.

Goddard to add third monthly meeting

GODDARD – The council will add a third regular meeting each month to be held at noon on the fourth Thursday of each month. The expectation is that the meetings would last no more than an hour, and would start July 23. Vice mayor Keaton Fish said he would likely have to attend the meetings remotely because of a limited lunch break at his work and the distance from his work to Goddard. Ordinance 963 authorizing the additional meeting was approved on a 5-0 vote. The topic had been discussed at previous meetings.

Clearwater to hold senior swims

CLEARWATER – Starting in July, senior swims will return to the Clearwater Aquatic Center. This highly-requested event is for seniors ages 55 and above to enjoy the pool from Monday to Thursday.
