Editor's note: Following are the unofficial minutes of the May 13 regular meeting of the USD 356 Conway Springs Board of Educa - tion. The minutes will be adopted at the next regular meeting, and are subject to change prior to approval.

Argonia Thursday Last day of school, USD 359 Argonia, dismissal at 12:30 p.m. Monday Avenue of Flags and Memorial Day Service, 10 a.m., Argonia Cemetery.

From May 1941 The Lions Club and the school have purchased a large white silk flag, on which the words “Argonia, Kansas” are lettered. The flag measures three by five feet.

From May 1939 With the employment this week of Miss Mary Louise Dungey, Winfield, for the home economics department, the list is again complete for the 1939-1940 term as all the teachers have been asked to return. Miss Dungey has had four years’ experience, the last two terms at Dexter.

7 Years Ago Several Campus High School track and field athletes have qualified for the State meet. For the boys team, the Colts' Federico Harvey was the standout at regionals last week.

140 Years Ago The Grand View Hotel will be opened next Monday or Tuesday. This is the most important improvement that has been made in Cheney in three months.

CHENEY – Cheney State Park is among the top choices for families seeking Memorial Day destinations. That’s according to a survey of 3,000 families conducted by a Las Vegas tour company.

The 2024 Wheat Quality Council’s Hard Winter Wheat Tour across Kansas wrapped up on May 16. During the three days of wheat scouting, tour participants traveled six routes from Manhattan to Colby to Wichita and back to Manhattan.
