Clearwater approves mayor’s appointments

CLEARWATER – At its May 12 meeting, the Clearwater City Council approved Mayor Burt Ussery’s annual May appointments of city officers, including Courtney Zollinger as treasurer, Jaye Poe as city clerk and freedom of information officer, Jamie Burley as court clerk and Becky L. Hurtig as municipal judge.

Wheat outlook is troublesome

Favorable fall conditions for wheat planting gave way to a warmer- than-usual winter and spring cold snaps, placing the Kansas wheat crop in a precarious situation. In south-central Kansas, Extension Office agriculture agent Jeff Seiler agreed that a warmer winter had a big impact on the state’s wheat crop, and that harvest in this area could easily be two weeks ahead of average.

Teams make it to State competitions

Several local teams have qualified for State competitions, specifically in softball and soccer. The Campus Colts, Eisenhower Tigers, Clearwater Indians and Andale- Garden Plain Indians-Owls all qualified for State softball play this week, and the Eisenhower Tigers and Campus Colts soccer teams also made it to State.

State track attendees will see changes

This Friday and Saturday, thousands of athletes and thousands of fans will descend on University Stadium at Wichita State University for the State track and field meet. Formerly known as Cessna Stadium, the name has changed as the facility undergoes massive rebuilding as part of a multi-phase, multi-year project.

Man shot in Conway Springs

CONWAY SPRINGS – A man who walked into a Wichita emergency room Sunday morning apparently was shot during an altercation in Conway Springs several hours earlier. The man went to the Wesley West ER around 10:30 a.m.
