Bad first half brings end to Lions’ season

TSnews Murphy’s Law reads, “Whatever can go wrong will go wrong, and at the worst possible moment.” That sums up the Goddard Lions’ first half against the Maize Eagles in last Thursday’s home playoff game, when the Lions fell behind 31-0 before ultimately losing 31-22. The Lions started the game with a pair of threeand- out possessions followed by a pair of fumbles, all of which led to points for the Eagles.

Raiders win first substate title since 2014

TSnews The last time the Argonia Raiders volleyball team went to the State tournament, all of its current players were still in grade school. The Raiders ended a nine-year State tournament drought last Saturday when they swept through the Class 1A Division II substate on their home court.

The Cheney High School girls placed first as a team at the 3A regional cross country meet last weekend “They didn’t necessarily hit the times they were hoping for based on what we had seen others run on that course two weeks earlier,” said Coach Rich Simmons. “But it was a very impressive performance.

Conway Springs thumps Trinity ahead of playoffs

TSnews The Trinity Catholic Celtics of Hutchinson came into Friday’s football game at the Conway Springs Cardinals as a decided underdog. The Celtics got the start they wanted by scoring first on 41-yard passing touchdown early in the first quarter, taking a 6-0 lead on the Cardinals.

Cheney completes perfect regular season

TSnews For the third time in four seasons, the Cheney Cardinals have played a perfect regular season. The Cardinals are 8-0 after last Friday’s 39-12 home victory over the Halstead Dragons in a non-district game that was basically a tune-up for the playoffs.

Goddard holds off Eisenhower comeback for rivalry win TSnews The Goddard Lions dominated the first part of Friday’s crosstown rivalry football game, scoring 22 straight points before the Eisenhower Tigers – trying to protect their undefeated regular season – rallied. That rally came up just a bit short, and the Lions won 22-14 in the regular-season finale for both teams.
