TSnews When the Conway Springs Cardinals lifted the Class 1A State football championship in the snow at Lewis Field at Fort Hays State University two Saturdays ago, it signified the latest chapter in a long story of success over the past 25 years.

TSnews The Conway Springs Cardinals’ 35-6 victory over the Jefferson County North Chargers on Nov. 25 gave the Cardinals their eighth State football championship, and first at the Class 1A level.

Cheney’s quest for its first-ever State football championship looked to be in peril more than once. The Cardinals found themselves in precarious spots twice in the playoffs, and their season could have gone a lot differently if they had lost their regular- season game against Andale.

TSnews At the end of most games this season, the Cheney Cardinals were joined by their opponents for a moment of prayer in the center of the field. Colter McDaniel, in his second year with the program, was the voice in the middle of the huddle.
