Body TSnews This is a season of change for local-area soccer teams, with many significant contributors lost to graduation. That shows in first-week results, with all three local squads suffering losses.

Body TSnews The Cheney Cardinals girls golf team took seventh at the nine-team Nickerson tournament early last week. The Cardinals shot 250, coming in just two strokes behind sixth-place Medicine Lodge and nine strokes in back of fifth-place Hesston.

Body TSnews The 2023 cross country season opened last Thursday at the Clearwater Invitational, which saw five local teams compete. Clearwater, Cheney, Andale- Garden Plain, Goddard, and Conway Springs all sent runners.

Body TSnews The Cheney Cardinals made an opening-week statement last Friday, putting up 34 unanswered points in a 34-7 beating of the Kingman Eagles. The Eagles, who were the Class 2A State runners-up last year, jump started their 2022 season with a two-touchdown win at Cheney.

Body TSnews The Clearwater Indians opened the era of new head coach Justin Burke with a big 33-6 road win over the El Dorado Wildcats last Friday. The Indians put up 33 unanswered points before the Wildcats managed a late score.

Body TSnews The Argonia-Attica Titans put up 26 first-quarter points en route to a 48-0 shutout victory over the Norwich Eagles. The game ended in the third quarter on the 45-point run rule.

Body TSnews A blocked punt returned for a touchdown gave the Eisenhower Tigers a 7-3 upset victory over the visiting Hutchinson Salthawks last Friday in Goddard. The football game was scoreless through the first half, as the Tigers held the highly-ranked Salthawks to a scoreless tie.

Body TSnews Volleyball season got underway on Saturday with tournaments at several locations. Campus, Eisenhower and Goddard all took part in the Ark Valley Chisholm Trail League preseason tournament, which was played in three different locations.

Body The Goddard-Campus Soccer Tournament kicks off next Tuesday, and will feature the Lions and Colts as well as the Eisenhower Tigers. First- and second-round games on Tuesday and Thursday will take place at both the Goddard District Stadium and at Haysville’s Colt Stadium.
