1-2 finish for GP girls, boys at State track

Clearwater takes fourth at 4A State softball

TSnews The Clearwater Indians’ time at the Class 4A State tournament at Salina got off to a memorable start last Thursday with a 5-0 win over Mulvane in the quarterfinals. The win was extra sweet, not only because Mulvane is one of the Indians’ biggest rivals, but the Wildcats had beaten Clearwater twice in the regular season.

TSnews The Eisenhower Tigers capped arguably the most memorable softball season in school history last week by taking second at the Class 5A State tournament at Wilkins Stadium in Wichita. The Tigers shut out Spring Hill 4-0 in last Thursday’s State tournament opener, then got past Shawnee Heights 4-3 in the semifinals the next day.

Andale-GP drops State tourney opener

TSnews The Andale-Garden Plain softball team found itself in an early hole and never could recover in a 12-2 loss to the Eudora Cardinals last Thursday in the first round of the Class 4A State tournament. Eudora scored five runs in the bottom of the first inning, then added five more in the bottom of the third to take a 10-2 lead and break the game open.

TSnews The Clearwater Indians improved upon last year’s third-place performance at the 4A State track and field meet, scoring 64 points and placing second this year. In many years, 64 points is enough to win a State championship.

TSnews The Eisenhower Tigers baseball team got off to a strong start at last week’s Class 5A State tournament, but ultimately could not sustain that start on the way to a fourth-place finish. The Tigers shut out Topeka Seaman 7-0 in last Thursday’s quarterfinal round, but lost to Bishop Carroll 4-3 in last Friday’s semifinals and fell to St.
