TSnews It was a good day last Thursday for the Cheney Cardinals track and field teams. The girls won the Hesston Invitational, and the boys finished in second place.
TSnews The Goddard Lions and Eisenhower Tigers were joined by 11 other teams at last Friday’s Goddard Invitational track and field meet. The Eisenhower girls had the best team finish, placing third out of 13 teams with 69 points.
TSnews The Conway Springs Cardinals girls track and field team had a good day at Chaparral High School, placing second out of five teams and scoring 157 points. Wellington, a much larger school, was the winner with 211 points.
TSnews One of the best rivalries in the Central Plains League finally made its softball debut last week when the Conway Springs-Argonia Reds hosted the Cheney Cardinals last Thursday for the first time in program history. However, it was the visiting Cardinals who came away with two wins, taking the opener 21-0 and the nightcap 19-0.
TSnews The Garden Plain Owls left Remington with both the boys and girls team championships at the Larry Brown Invitation, held last Thursday. The Garden Plain Owls put up 182 points, beating runner-up Berean Academy.
TSnews The Clearwater Indians won the girls portion of the Circle track and field meet, held Monday in Towanda. Three teams scored at least 100 points, with the Indians scoring 135.
The Argonia Raiders performed well at last Thursday’s William Crosley Invitational track and field meet, hosted by Pretty Prairie High School. The Argonia boys placed fifth out of nine teams with 57 points, and just missed a fourth-place finish, coming in two points behind Fairfield High School.
TSnews The Cheney Cardinals came out the winners – twice – in their first-ever meeting on the baseball diamond with the Conway Springs-Argonia Reds last Thursday. Cheney took the opener 10-0, then won the second game 16-0.
TSnews All four boys tennis teams in the TSnews coverage area are sending players to State tournaments, after regional qualifying tournaments that were held over the weekend. The best individual finish among the four schools went to Campus High School’s Jacob Bush, who won a regional singles championship at the May 5 event in Dodge City.
Peyton McCormick Cheney Cardinals This week’s TSnews Athlete of the Week is Cheney softball pitcher Peyton McCormick. She’s played a key role in helping the Cardinals to a top see in their 3A regional Last week, McCormick pitched a shutout against Conway Springs.
