Cheney sweeps CPL meet one final time

The Cheney Cardinals track and field teams accomplished a preseason goal last Thursday, winning the girls and boys Central Plains League meet for a final time. The Cardinals are moving to the Central Kansas League next school year.

TSnews The Clearwater Indians softball team won two of its three games last week to earn the top seed in the Class 4A West, taking a pair of games from Wichita East last Monday by identical 15-0 scores before falling 3-2 at Andover Central the next day. Makena Hampton had three doubles and four RBI in last Monday’s opener, while she and Liv Miller both homered in the nightcap and combined for five RBI.

AHS girls take second at SCBL

TSnews The Argonia girls track team won gold in several events at last Friday’s South Central Border League track meet, which was held at Caldwell High School. Bailey Haines won a pair of league titles, as shw placed first in both the 800 meters and 1600 meters.

TSnews The Cheney Cardinals baseball team got a big game on the mound from Gracen Radell and a big game at the plate from Kaden Eck to take a 3-2 win over Halstead in the Class 3A regional opener last Wednesday at Cheney. Radell started and went 6-1/3 innings, striking out 15 and allowing just six hits, two runs and two walks before Carson Swartz came in and got the final two outs.

Tigers tops in 5A West

TSnews With two shutout victories last week, the Eisenhower Tigers have secured the top seed in Class 5A West. The Tigers beat Rose Hill 2-0 in Goddard on May 12, and then beat Andover Central 1-0 in Andover on May 14.

Swimmers, divers headed to State

TSnews Three swimmers and divers from this year’s Campus Colts team will take part in this week’s State tournament in Lenexa. Joslyn Cox, a Campus junior, will compete in diving, which begins on Thursday.

Cardinals take fifth at State

TSnews PRAIRIE VILLAGE – The Conway Springs Cardinals boys tennis team’s tough regular-season schedule once again paid off with a solid finish at the Class 3-2-1A State tournament last Friday and Saturday at the Harmon Park Tennis Complex. The Cardinals took fifth with 12 points, one point behind fourth-place Cair Paravel Latin and one point ahead of sixthplace Wichita Trinity.

Tigers punch ticket to State

TSnews The Eisenhower Tigers will send their full team to the Class 5A State golf tournament after finishing in the top three at Monday’s regional at Smoky Hill Country Club in Salina. The Tigers shot 324 to tie DeSoto for second place.

Track

The Conway Springs Cardinals girls track and field team place first at last week’s meet hosted by Chaparral High School. The Cardinals scored 155 points in their best team performance this season.

Baseball

TSnews The Goddard Lions baseball team entered this week on a four-game winning streak after taking a pair of games at Arkansas City last Friday, 12-2 in the opener and 8-2 in the nightcap. Last Wednesday, the Lions beat Wichita Northwest 2-0.
