Collegiate edges Clearwater girls

TSnews The Clearwater Indians girls basketball team took a two-point lead to the fourth quarter last Friday at Wichita Collegiate, but could not stave off a comeback by the host Spartans in a 46-41 loss. The Indians trailed 2315 at halftime, but used a strong third quarter to take a 39-37 lead to the final period.

Lions boys lose to Newton, Central

TSnews The Goddard Lions boys basketball team lost twice last week, falling at Newton 60-47 on Monday, Feb. 17, then hosting Salina Central on Friday and losing a closer game, 59-54.

Raiders head to postseason on hot streak

TSnews The Argonia Raiders boys basketball team is headed to the postseason on a three-game winning streak after rallying for a 52-49 win against the West Elk Patriots last Friday. The Raiders (7-14) trailed 25-18 at the intermission, but outscored West Elk 16-7 in the third period to take a 34-32 lead to the fourth quarter.

Cardinals win at Medicine Lodge

TSnews The Conway Springs Cardinals boys basketball team made the most of limited action last week because of the snow, rallying from a 10-point second-quarter deficit to take a 56-47 win at Medicine Lodge last Friday. “Medicine Lodge is a fun place for me because the atmosphere is always electric,” Conway Springs coach Paul Lange said.

Owls finish regular season on a roll

TSnews Cooper Scheer had one of his best games all season with 19 points and Kaeden Kasselman delivered a double-double as the Garden Plain Owls beat the Chaparral Roadrunners 58-42 on homecoming night. The Owls picked up their 11th win of the season, and sixth in a row.

Tigers boys beat Mustangs, lose to Trojans

TSnews The Eisenhower Tigers boys basketball team opened last week with a Monday win at home over Salina Central, 46-41, then lost to Andover, 53-40, on Friday. Facing the Salina Central Mustangs, the Tigers had built a 14-point lead by the start of the fourth quarter, at which point the Mustangs started to make up some ground.

Argonia wins thriller over West Elk

TSnews The Argonia Raiders girls basketball team could not have picked a much better way to head to the postseason. Trailing the West Elk Patriots by one point in the closing seconds of last Friday’s game at Argonia, Autumn Coleman sank a jumper ahead of the buzzer to lift the Raiders to a 29-28 win.

Lions girls beat Railers

TSnews The Goddard Lions girls basketball team went 1-1 last week, winning at Newton on Monday, 46-34, then losing at home versus Salina Central, 44-37, on Friday. Newton is still winless for the season at the start of this week, but Lions head coach Jeremy Heim said they have been improving throughout the year.
