The Andale Indians had a lot to prove after blowing a big lead not once, but twice, to the Cheney Cardinals last season, as the Cardinals ended the Indians’ 57-game win streak in their first matchup of 2023 and then ended Andale’s run of four straight Class 3A State titles in their playoff rematch last season.

TSnews The Cheney Cardinals erased the only blemish on this year’s record, beating the Collegiate Spartans 14-6 in Wichita on the same field where the Cardinals suffered a 24-point loss just three Fridays prior. Good field position helped set up Cheney’s first touchdown, as the Cardinals returned the opening kickoff to the Collegiate 25-yard line.

After an early touchdown, the Conway Springs Cardinals’ defense shut down the Marion Warriors in a 21-6 win last Friday in Conway Springs. With the win, the Cardinals advance to the sectional (quarterfinal) round of the Class 1A State playoffs.

TSnews The Argonia-Attica Titans drew first blood in their 8-man Div. II football game at the undefeated Dighton Hornets, but the Hornets used a strong second-half to come back for a 30-16 victory.

TSnews The connection between Derek Morgan and Carter Pabst is special. That was on full display as the Eisenhower Tigers duo connected four times in last Thursday’s 37-26 playoff win over the Maize South Mavericks at Goddard District Stadium.

TSnews A defensive score highlighted four Garden Plain touchdowns as the host Owls beat the Phillipsburg Panthers 28-0 last Friday in a game played on Cheney’s artificial-turf field because of rain and field conditions. The Owls, always a run-first team, put most of their offensive efforts in the ground game.

TSnews The Argonia Raiders wrapped up their most successful volleyball season in a decade last Saturday when they finished fourth at the Class 1A Division II State tournament in Emporia. Argonia made it to the semifinals by going 1-2 in pool play last Friday and earning the second bid in its pool by winning a three-way tiebreaker.

TSnews The Clearwater Indians volleyball team finished one win short of advancing to the final four at the Class 4A State tournament last Friday as the Indians finished State tournament pool play 1-2 for the second year in a row. Clearwater defeated Concordia 25-23, 25-17 in its first pool contest, but fell to McPherson 16-25, 23-25 in the second pool contest and then fell to Rock Creek 18-25, 14-25 in the final contest of pool play.

TSnews The Argonia-Attica Titans football team won its 8-man Div. II playoff opener 70-20 last week Thursday in a home game at Attica.
