Raiders qualify for State

TSnews The Argonia Raiders punched their ticket to the Class 1A Division II State volleyball tournament for the second year last Saturday with a thrilling three-set victory over Attica in the substate finals at Attica. Argonia downed the host Bulldogs 23-25, 25-16, 25-23.

Tigers, Lions conclude soccer seasons

TSnews The Goddard Lions and Eisenhower Tigers boys soccer teams lost first-round regional games Monday evening to conclude their 2024 seasons. Facing Maize South, the top seed in Class 5A West, the Tigers took the game to double overtime before losing 2-1.

TSnews The Conway Springs Cardinals volleyball team’s Cinderella-like run in the postseason came to an end last Saturday against Sedgwick, but not without a fight. The Cardinals won their Class 2A substate opener over Erie to earn a matchup with host Sedgwick for the substate title and a trip to the State tournament.

TSnews The Campus Colts boys soccer team lost two last week, falling at Maize 2-1 on Tuesday, then hosting Hutchinson Thursday and losing 3-0. At Maize, the Colts jumped out to an early lead with a goal scored by Chris Caballero.

Trio of golfers make it to final day at State

TSnews Three local girls golfers made it to the second and final day last Tuesday at the Class 5A State tournament at Salina. Aubrey Hardtarfer and Stella Wright made it for the Eisenhower Tigers, while Sydney Chapman made it for the Goddard Lions.

Northwest edges Eisenhower on last-second FG

TSnews The Eisenhower Tigers and Wichita Northwest Grizzlies played a wild, back-and-forth football game last Friday in Goddard, with the visiting Grizzlies winning 31-28 on a last-second field goal. It was a non-league game between highly- ranked teams, with the Tigers among the best Class 5A teams and the Grizzlies among the best 6A squads.

Garden Plain tops Clearwater in first game since 1982

TSnews A pair of first-half touchdowns from the Garden Plain Owls football team combined with a pair of lost fumbles by the Clearwater Indians helped the Owls to a 35-7 victory in Clearwater. It was the first meeting between the teams since 1982.

Road unkind as Lions fall to Mustangs

TSnews The Goddard Lions had hoped for a more welcoming situation last Friday in Salina, but the host Mustangs proved to be ungracious in defeating the Lions 52-24. It was a close contest in the first half, as the teams traded scores.
