Grant to help bring groceries back to Cheney

TSnews CHENEY – A $100,000 grant from the Kansas Department of Commerce will help bring groceries back to Cheney. The City of Cheney announced last Friday that it will receive a Historic Economic Asset Lifeline (HEAL) Grant in collaboration with the owner of 412 N.
SPK Grocery in Cheney closed at the end of December. It will reopen as a new grocery as well as a golf cart dealership, with remodeling costs aided by a $100,000 grant. Travis Mounts/TSnews

Goddard delays duplex restrictions

TSnews GODDARD – The Goddard City Council was set at its meeting Monday to discuss and possibly act on restrictive covenants for future multi-family residential developments. Instead, city manager Craig Crossette told the council that the Wichita Area Builders Association reached out to the city Monday afternoon about the proposed covenants.

Conway Springs City Council gets updates on street work

TSnews CONWAY SPRINGS – The City of Conway Springs is in the middle of some important street work in the community, and council members got an update on some of that work at last week’s meeting. Two components of the current street work are moving ahead.

Clearwater weighs response after county cancels aid agreements

TSnews CLEARWATER – The Clearwater City Council on May 12 spent the bulk of a more than two-hour meeting weighing how the city should respond after the Sedgwick County Board of Commissioners voted on May 6 to cancel longstanding mutual aid and automatic aid agreements between the city and Sedgwick County Fire District 1. The cancellation takes effect after a 90-day notice period.

Cheney tables code enforcement plan

TSnews CHENEY – Cheney city leaders have opted to table a proposal to turn over their code enforcement to a private company. The decision came at last week’s city council meeting after staff members raised issues with the proposal from Pro Code Compliance.
