CHENEY – Eliza Rosenhagen of Cheney gathered several awards at the recent Kansas Junior Angus Association Preview Show awards ceremony, which took place June 8 in Hutchinson. Rosenhagen was one of two girls to win top honors in the intermediate division of prepared public speaking.

Invenergy presents CS council with $1,000 for park improvements

TSnews CONWAY SPRINGS – A surprise visitor at last week's Conway Springs City Council meeting came with a gift – a check for $1,000 to be used for park improvements. Spearheaded by council member Larry Roth, the City of Conway Springs has started a fund for improvements at Central Park, where the city is hoping to make numerous improvements.

USD 261 approves union deal, sets raises

Staff report TSnews HAYSVILLE – The USD 261 Haysville Board of Education approved a tentative agreement with the Haysville Education Association, the teacher's union, at a June 26 board of education meeting. The agreement, which is for the 2025-26 school year, is for a 3.1 percent increase in total compensation.

Chamber meets with last-second change

TSnews HAYSVILLE – Haysville Chamber of Commerce members had to make last-second changes ahead of last Thursday's meeting. A complication arose just before the meeting, but First Baptist Church was able to create a space at the last minute and give Chamber members a place to meet.

GARDEN PLAIN – As the busy Fourth of July holiday weekend gets closer, the American Red Cross asks donors to celebrate by making a blood donation appointment to help power the blood supply through mid-summer. While all blood types are needed, donors with type O blood are most urgently needed.

City gets better offer for Chisholm Ridge lots

TSnews CLEARWATER – During the June 10 Clearwater City Council meeting, the council directed staff to draw up a contract selling four remaining city-owned residential lots in Chisholm Ridge to Klausmeyer Construction for $32,000. However, on June 24 the council learned that, before the agreement with Klausmeyer was finalized, Sellers Enterprises LLC submitted an offer to buy the four lots for $64,000 and to build a new house on each lot within a year.

When Kim and I traveled to Tulsa for a long weekend recently, we took in some great sightseeing, and a phenomenal concert by Italian opera singer Andrea Bocelli. Even with such highlights, we still had time to “pick” some of Tulsa’s many eclectic antique stores and junk shops.
