At the recent annual meeting of the Sumner County Conservation District, one of the highlights was the naming of this year’s poster winners. Guests at the annual meeting of the Sedgwick County Conservation District knew they were in for a treat when speaker Todd Volkmann took Chuck the turkey vulture out of his carrier. Volkmann is the exhibit caretaker at the Kansas Wildlife Exhibit in Central Riverside Park.

May family earns Sedgwick County Conservation Award

Soil conservation has become a family tradition for Pete May and his family. That tradition and those efforts have been recognized by the Sedgwick County Conservation District, which honored the May family recently with its 2025 Conservation Award.
