TSnews GODDARD – The City of Goddard will consider increasing the mill levy by as many as 6 mills, a smaller increase than the 10-mill increase that was under consideration. A proposed budget that could increase the city's mill levy to 37.265 mills was approved at Monday night's city council meeting.

They may look brilliant to the human eye, but cicada killer wasps are certainly no ally to the sixlegged, three-eyed insect whose steady buzz can be heard on most summer nights in Kansas. Kansas State University horticulture expert Cynthia Domenghini said it is common for cicada killer wasps to build nests in lawn and garden areas around the home.

TSnews CONWAY SPRINGS – Members of the Conway Springs City Council gathered a lot of new information last week on housing rehabilitation programs through SCKEDD. Representatives from the South Central Kansas Economic Development District were on hand for the meeting, and presented information on various programs the City of Conway Springs might be eligible for.

HAYSVILLE – Aging Projects, Inc., which operates the Meals on Wheels program through the Haysville Senior Center, has a great need for volunteers who are available to deliver meals to the homebound seniors in the Haysville community.

Minnesota Lawyer magazine has named former Goddard resident Sarah Jack a 2024 as an “Up & Coming Attorney.” Jack is an associate with Fish & Richardson, an intellectual property law firm with multiple offices in the United States as well as offices in Germany and China. The award honors rising attorneys who have distinguished themselves through professional achievements and community leadership.

TSnews CHENEY – Members of the Cheney Chamber of Commerce got updates on all kinds of projects at their monthly meeting last Tuesday. A big new project that the Chamber is sponsoring is the banners for local veterans.

Extention Winter canola – a cool-season broadleaf crop used in cooking oils and renewable fuels – gets planted in Kansas every year around September and harvested in June. Kansas State University canola breeder Mike Stamm announced the results of this year’s harvest recently on K-State’s Agriculture Today radio program, noting most producers seem pleased with the yields they received.
