Following are next week’s menus for Friendship Meals and Meals on Wheels in both Sedgwick County and Sumner County. A change was made recently, and there are now different menus for Sedgwick County and Sumner County.

Earlier this week, I made a fabulous apple cake. (I promise to share the recipe with you in an upcoming column.) I realized after I peeled and diced all my apples, though, that I had more than the recipe called for, and while I put a few extras into the batter, I was a little nervous I was going to mess up the apple-tocake ratio.

Ingredients 1 medium-sized apple (I used Granny Smith) 1 teaspoon sugar or sugar substitute 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon 1/2 teaspoon cornstarch 1 tablespoon water Core and cut up your apple into bite-sized pieces (I diced mine). You can peel it or not, depending on your preferences.

With Independence Day, many people will be celebrating the holiday with fireworks. Readers should know that the rules for firework vary by community, with each city and county having its own regulations.

Garden Plain, Goddard and Haysville have announced plans for their annual Independence Day celebrations, featuring competitions, food, music, parades and fireworks. Garden Plain and Haysville’s festivities will be held on July 4, while Goddard’s activities, sponsored by the local Lions Club, will be held the evening of July 5.

It’s time to get ready to celebrate the Sedgwick County Fair! This year’s Fair will take place July 10-13 at the Fairgrounds in Cheney. The Fair season starts with publication of the Sedgwick County Fair Guide.

Barton Community College has announced its list of graduates who earned associate degrees or certificates for career training during the fall semester of 2023. Rylan Doshier of Cheney was among the graduates, earning an associate of science degree.
