State football championships by two different Cardinal football teams highlighted the local year in sports, but 2023 was full of many other great moments from January through December. Here is a look at the year in sports.
TSnews The Andale Indians topped the Garden Plain Owls girls basketball team, 34-29, in a low-scoring game that matched the two high schools in the Renwick School District. The Owls shot better from the floor, making 43.3 percent of their shots, but the Indians sank four 3-point shots to a single one for the Owls, helping offset the shooting difference.
TSnews The Conway Springs Cardinals basketball team will take a nice winning streak into the new year after winning its fourth game in a row last Tuesday. Last Tuesday against Belle Plaine, the Cardinals used a strong second- quarter performance and led by 18 points going to the fourth quarter on the way to a 47-36 win.

TSnews A referee’s call of goal-tending as time expired gave the Hutchinson Salthawks a 51-49 victory over the host Campus Colts boys basketball team on Dec. 19, as both teams wrapped up the December portions of their schedules.
TSnews The Hutchinson Salthawks beat the Campus Colts girls basketball team 52-19 in Haysville last week on Tuesday, sending the Colts into the holiday break still looking for their first victory. The Colts had just four offensive rebounds, their fewest of the season.
