TSnews The Goddard Lions girls basketball team closed their fall 2023 campaign with a win at home versus Valley Center, 37-30. “We started off pretty hot, attacking really well,” Lions head coach Erin Johnston said.

TSnews The Argonia Raiders girls basketball team ended the calendar year by having its three-game winning streak snapped last Tuesday at Attica as it fell 27-20 to the host Bulldogs. The Raiders (4-3) trailed 9-6 after the opening period and 11-8 at halftime, but the host Bulldogs outscored Argonia 10-4 in the third to push their lead to 21-12 by the beginning of the fourth quarter.

TSnews The Argonia Raiders boys basketball team built up a 10-point lead early, then weathered a strong fourth-quarter comeback to defeat Attica 44-41 last Tuesday night at Attica and end 2023 with a win. The Raiders (2-5) led 17-7 after the opening period and 25-20 at the intermission.

The Cheney Cardinals got their biggest win of the season last Friday, a 59-51 win at the Moundridge Wildcats, who are the defending Class 2A State champions. The Wildcats jumped out to an early lead, going up 20-13 in the first quarter.“ They’re a good team to go against,” said Cheney head coach Linndy Frieden.

Andale has been a consistent thorn in the side of the Clearwater Indians girls basketball team. Even the best Clearwater squads in recent years have ultimately fell short against the northwestern Sedgwick County power.

The Conway Springs Cardinals boys basketball team gathered some momentum last week as it picked up a pair of wins to get to .500 on the season. The Cardinals beat Caldwell 42-30 last Tuesday, then scored a 50-28 win over Inman last Friday in the Heart of America- Central Plains League Challenge.

The Clearwater Indians boys wrestling team finished 2023 on a strong note as the Indians took second last Friday at the Marion County Duals, going 4-1 on the day. Clearwater won all three of its matches in the Marion Blue pool, downing Central Burden 60-15, Wellington 51-24 and West Elk 63-10 to make it to the semifinals.

Clearwater Indians senior Elizabeth Tjaden broke the 1,000-point mark in her high school career. She achieved that mark last week during the Indians’ 68-18 blowout victory at El Dorado. She led all scorers with 32 points, and added 9 rebounds. She is pictured with her parents and grandparents.
