The Clearwater Indians are looking to a new – but not totally new – face to lead the girls basketball team on the hardwood this winter. Maygan Doll, a Goddard High School alumna, succeeds veteran coach Casey Carlson after he stepped down in the spring after seven seasons at the helm.

The Clearwater Indians wrestling team will be fueled by an exciting group of newcomers and veterans when the Indians open the season on Thursday at Cheney against Campus and the host Cardinals. Christian Lange, Kaden Bohnenblust, Emmit Ohlde, Dallen Kangiesser and Coy Dugan all return on the boys side, while Dalton Wulf also returns after missing last season with an injury and “will play a huge part this year,” said head coach Cooper Ross.

As the Cheney Cardinals boys basketball team tips off the new season, it will turn to junior Quaid Thomas as the team looks to replace a class that graduated from last year. Thomas, a first-team all-league player in the Central Plains League and an all-state honorable mention, is the Cardinals’ lone returning starter.

The Campus Colts wrestling team will look to its veterans, especially on the girls side, as it gets ready for Thursday’s season opener at Cheney against Clearwater and the host Cardinals. Six State qualifiers return for the girls – two State medalists in Brooklyn Burling (235 pounds and fourth place) and Tianna Murphy (110, fifth), plus Elaine Rhea (100), Ava Cruce (120), Tegan Dushane (155) and Elayna Evans (190) – as Campus looks to build on a strong performance last winter.

The Campus Colts girls basketball team comes into the season with plenty of varsity experience, and they hope to turn that experience into an increase in victories. The Colts have a good-sized senior class of seven, five of whom played extensively last season.

Despite not graduating any players from last season, the Argonia Raiders girls basketball team will have a few new faces on its roster this season. Joining a talented group of returnees from last season’s 14-8 squad are talented freshmen Piper Kollmeyer – fresh off a strong volleyball season – and Kaleigh Smith.
