Cardinals place four in top five at Hesston

TSnews The Cheney Cardinals wrestling team showed sometimes less is more when all four of its wrestlers – three boys and a girl – finished in the top five at last Saturday’s Hesston Invitational. “We wrestled very well but ran into some tough wrestlers in the semifinals,” Cheney coach Kevin Schultz said.

Tigers medal three at Douglass

TSnews The Eisenhower Tigers boys and girls wrestling teams traveled to Douglass last weekend for a tournament and had three of their wrestlers bring home medals. On the boys side, Lucas Freeman (215 pounds) led the way with a second-place finish, losing by fall to Douglass wrestler Carter Green in the finals.

Lions shine in pair of tough tournaments

TSnews The Goddard Lions boys and girls wrestling teams wrestled in two of their toughest tournaments of the year last weekend, with the boys heading to Enid, Okla. for the Mid America Nationals and the girls competing at the Christmas Clash in Great Bend.

Owls medal two at Hesston

TSnews The Garden Plain Owls wrestling team had two wrestlers place in the top four when it competed last Saturday at the Hesston Invitational. Nate Eck (106 pounds) went 4-1 on the day to finish second, while Trevor Catlin (120) won a pair of matches and ended up finishing fourth.

Argonia boys still seeking first win

TSnews The Argonia Raiders boys basketball team is still in search of its first win after going 0-3 at the Border Queen Tournament last week. The Raiders fell to South Haven 46-38 in last Tuesday’s tournament opener, then dropped a 52-51 decision to Udall three nights later in consolation play.

Clearwater Indians do well at Wellington

TSnews The Clearwater Indians boys and girls wrestling teams capped a busy three-day stretch with a solid performance at the Wellington Invitational last Saturday, including a third-place finish by the girls team and a fifth-place finish by the boys. Two girls, Remi Cain (125 pounds) and Kiley Blake (190), both won titles at Wellington, while three more – Genevieve Diebold (100), Graysea Gardenhire (120) and Payton Newell (135) – finished second and Rachel Frickey (235) placed third.

TSnews With a dominating first quarter, the Garden Plain Owls girls basketball team defused the visiting Rose Hill Rockets on Dec. 10, winning 53-28.

Indians have bumpy ride at Kingman

TSnews The Clearwater Indians boys basketball team’s inaugural run at the Kingman Eagle Classic was a bit bumpy. The Indians lost their two pool games to Great Bend and Sterling last Thursday and last Friday, then Clearwater fell to the host Eagles last Saturday 58-47 to finish sixth and go 0-3 at the tournament.
