Cardinals boys pick up first victory

TSnews The Conway Springs Cardinals boys basketball team struggled in its first two games at the Marion tournament last week, but put it together in the tournament’s fifth-place game last Saturday with a 48-45 win over Wichita Central Christian. It was the first win of the season for the Cardinals.

TSnews The Conway Springs Cardinals girls basketball team shook off a pair of losses to Wichita Home School and Halstead in pool play at the Marion tournament to down the Wichita Central Christian Cougars 49-21 in last Saturday’s fifth-place game at the tournament. “It felt good to get a win after two hard games and losses against some stiff competition,” Conway Springs coach Andrew Gower said.

Colts open season strong

TSnews The Campus Colts boys and girls wrestling teams opened the season strong last week, with the girls taking third at the Valley Center Girls Invitational and the boys finishing fourth at the Wayne Jackson Wrestling Duals in Arkansas City. Both Colts teams also took a dual from Cheney last Thursday.

Cardinals boys take fourth at El Dorado wrestling

TSnews The Cheney Cardinals wrestling team showed it could do more with less as it made a strong showing last weekend at the El Dorado Invitational despite taking just five wrestlers (three boys and two girls) to the tournament. “The experience of our wrestlers is showing right now,” Cheney coach Kevin Schultz said.

Freshman Eck hits game winner for Garden Plain

TSnews The Garden Plain Owls picked up a victory in their season opener last Thursday, beating the visiting Wellington Crusaders 49-48 on a late shot by freshman Cooper Eck. It was a game of runs for both teams, including a 15-5 run by Wellington to end the first half, giving the Crusaders a 25-19 lead at the break.

Owls fifth at El Dorado

TSnews The Garden Plain Owls wrestling team got its season off to a solid start last weekend with a fifth-place finish at the El Dorado Invitational. The Owls finished fifth with 75 1/2 points, one-half point ahead of Burlingame and 7 1/2 points ahead of fourthplace Cheney.

Six medal for Indians

TSnews The Clearwater Indians boys and girls wrestling teams earned six medals (five girls and one boy) at wrestling tournaments in Pratt last weekend. On the girls side, the Indians took fifth last Friday with 104 points and had five wrestlers place in the top four.

Shorthanded AHS girls drop opener

TSnews The Argonia Raiders girls basketball team had just six players available to play in last Friday’s season opener and ultimately could not keep pace with Pretty Prairie in a 46-23 loss. “We had a tough game to begin the season,” Argonia coach Dixie Brewster said.

Tigers put three on medal stand at Pratt

TSnews The Eisenhower Tigers boys and girls wrestling teams opened their seasons last week with tournaments at Pratt and had three wrestlers – two girls and a boy – bring home medals from the events. On the boys side, the Tigers finished 15th last Saturday with 33 1/2 points, one-half point behind Holcomb for 14th and three points behind 13th-place Clearwater.
